Junior Americanism & Government Program
Fact Sheet
1. The Junior Americanism & Government Test program was started in the Department of Indiana in 1984 for 5th and 6th grade classes.
2. The American Legion Junior Americanism & Government Test is approved by the Division of Student Activities of the Indiana Secondary School Administrators.
3. The Americanism & Government Test is to be given in participating elementary schools between January and the end of April. The test is open to elementary students in all public, private and parochial schools.
4. Each student participating in the Junior Americanism & Government Test will be taking the same test. The answers on the test will be scored against a standardized answer sheet.
5. The test consists of 50 questions, which vary from multiple choice to true and false. The Jr. Americanism Test covers American history topics like the Civil War, the colonies, flag information, and the Constitution.
6. Test papers may be ordered by contacting your local American Legion Posts or Units. The sponsoring Post or Unit will provide the test to school officials on the day the test is to be given. The sponsoring Post or Unit will participate in the giving and grading of the test. Your District Chairman can assist you in finding a local Post or Unit to sponsor your school. This test is only recognized at the post level.
