SUBJECT: “DO’S AND DON’TS”
DO Plan on making a full week’s commitment to the Hoosier Boys State program.
DO NOT Plan to leave Boys State early to attend another program, basketball/baseball tournaments, family vacations, or for other reasons. Attendance at Boys State for the entire week is MANDATORY.
DO Bring lots of ideas for campaign signs, gimmicks, slogans, etc. with you.
DO NOT Bring any prepared campaign material with you.
DO Bring comfortable clothes. T-shirts and shorts can be worn on most occasions. Coats, Shirts, and ties are optional. Candidates for the offices of governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, etc. should dress accordingly.
DO NOT Bring clothes that are inappropriate or offensive.
DO Bring any items from home which will make your stay more pleasant. (Fan, radio, CD player, etc.)
DO NOT Bring anything with you which is extremely valuable. All personal items are your responsibility. Hoosier Boys State assumes no responsibility for any lost items.
DO Learn who is sponsoring you, either an American Legion Post or other service organization.
DO NOT Hesitate to keep the sponsor informed of what you are doing. They are proud to have you represent them.
DO Come to Boys State with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Be prepared to spend long, but rewarding hours learning with the Boys State program.
DO NOT Think you are coming to a recreation camp.
DO Plan to report to the Registration site on the campus of Indiana State University by 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9.
DO NOT Plan on arriving after 1:00 p.m. Registration will be closed and Boys State will be in session. If you are going to be late, you must inform us at the address listed above or the phone number listed above.
DO Extend yourself to the fullest while participating in activities at Boys State.
DO NOT Think you can’t do something without trying first.
DO Be proud of being selected to attend Boys State. It is an honor afforded only to a special group of young men each year.
