The Director's Page

May I extend my warmest greetings to those of you reading this page.  My name is
Steve Bowman and I was appointed in June of 2007 to be the executive director of the American Legion Hoosier Boys State Program.  My goal, our goal, is to ensure that the experience of Hoosier Boys State is meaningful and rewarding to every delegate attending our program.  To assist us in meeting that goal we work, each year, at securing a staff of dedicated professionals to make that goal possible.

As part of the Americanism services, the American Legion's Department of Indiana staff
will join us to make the week of June 14 through June 21 truly a "Week to shape a lifetime".

The administration and support staff of Indiana State University works closely with our HBS
staff to ensure a well organized, educational, and safe program.  Our administrative team,
counselors, assistant deans, military representatives and special school instructors will
attend to the educational programs and supervisory needs throughout the week.  The
Indiana State Police Department is represented everyday and their instruction, exhibits,
and demonstrations are outstanding.

Volunteer veterans, community businesses, and American Legion members perform beyond
the call of duty to pay your fees and secure your position as a delegate to Hoosier Boys
State.  They offer, across the state, a number of orientation programs so you may become
more familiar with our program.  Please check the www.indlegion.org website for times and locations.

As a delegate to the Hoosier Boys State program, your part is quite simple.  On June 14,
2007, you arrive at Indiana State University to begin a week of activities focused on exploring
and learning about Indiana's governing process.  The KEY is participation.  As the week
progresses your lives will be enriched with new knowledge and experiences.  You will meet
new people and may develop friendships that last a lifetime.  For over 70 years the traditions
of Hoosier Boys State have transcended political and geographical boundaries.  Our staff
members demonstrate, daily, a willingness to share their political knowledge and life
experiences with our HBS delegates.  I encourage you to seek them out and listen
carefully to what they say.
The week belongs to you and it can truly be a "week to shape a lifetime" if you are willing.
Remember the KEY is getting involved from day one and staying involved throughout the
week.

Finally, I strongly encourage you, when you return home, to seek out the volunteers, the
community sponsors, the American Legion members, and THANK them for making this
program possible.

Sincerely,
                     Steven M. Bowman - Director
